A Royal Intervention To End Homelessness In The UK

More than year ago, the UK’s Prince of Wales discussed his special interest in ending homelessness1. His Homewards campaign launched in July 2023.

But what on earth can a Prince do to tackle such a worldwide crisis? His undoubted wealth is the tiniest drop in the bucket needed to tackle such a problem. Yet even people in foreign countries seem interested in acknowledging his publicized concerns.

An Asian newspaper is keeping Prince William’s interest in the news. Presumably publishers, editors, and reporters see some value in ‘Royal’ support in the battle against affordable housing.

Why should we even be bothered to celebrate the involvement of a UK Prince, via breaking ‘news’ story from halfway around the world?

When this blog began, a lot of reporting was based on the view that homelessness was a beneath-notice self-destructive sickness suffered by druggies and crazies. It was not, and still is not today, thoroughly recognized as an enormous and still growing disaster as more and more moms and dads (maybe yours, too) face housing costs rising beyond the shrinking value of their incomes.

More awareness of the true nature of homelessness needs all the help it can get. If it takes a perfectly respectable royal prince to help achieve that goal by celebrating perfectly respectable homelessness, then we’re on board.
