It’s the bad attitude of conservative voters, stupid. Those are the folks with their bread nicely buttered. They are probably already installed in houses they can afford. They just don’t care about their fellow humans, particularly the most vulnerable.
But wait a minute now.
We’re used to the set-piece pull-yourself-up-by-your-bootstraps demands from right-wing politicians. They know (or think they know) what their ‘tough love’ conservative constituents want when it comes to handouts to the undeserving poor.
But are those politicians really in touch with their own constituency? Not always.
Here’s an unexpected result out of the UK, where small-c conservatives actually get to vote for a party with the associated large-C Conservative name. It seems to suggest that the conservative voters are not quite as dogmatic as their political representatives make out to be!
