“Everyone Delivers Houses In days, Except Here. ” So What’s The Problem, America?

What are these giants doing in the affordable housing business?

The problem? That would seem to be a cozy, profitable North American building industry, set in its ways. Winds of change blowing? No problem, propagandize rather than change.

An example? The traditional construction industry now appears to show compassion and concern by embracing the need to construct more affordable housing in the midst of a growing crisis.

The scam? Emphasize the ‘poor struggling middle class’ in redefining affordable housing as a ‘workforce’ housing, focusing the affordable crisis on middle class housing that the industry can build without changing its spots — as long as it receives subsidies or tax breaks.

But the winds of change are blowing colder and harder, and the industry itself is beginning to sound the alarm. Facing a construction downturn this year that rivals that of 2008, there are fears that non-construction industry giants such as Google, Amazon and Tesla are beginning to ‘meddle’ in the construction industry. (The definition of ‘meddling’ in this case would seem to be ‘stealing jobs from the conventional construction industry by attempting to build housing more efficiently.’)

As noted in the headline of this article, industry experts are at last beginning to question the traditional methods of the construction industry, methods which can result in a house taking more than a year to build, when other countries seem to be able to throw them up in a time frame measured in days, not years.

The silver lining beyond the industry panic? When the North American construction industry does finally changes its spots, the beneficiaries will undoubtedly be beleaguered buyers and renters of housing.
