Now imagine that the only way you have to get around is on foot and that all your possessions must travel with you.
Challenging. It is also the reality of being homeless.
On top of the risk of injury, there are very few places where you can take off your shoes and clean your feet.
Michelle Gamage, reporting for THE TYEE, describes one man in Vancouver who regularly washed people’s feet at one of the city’s safe injection sites. He died in 2023. Gamage also talks about the challenges of foot care while homeless and what people who can help with foot care need to do.
