Wood, stone or brick, housing is not affordable for young people in New South Wales, Australia.

Without a parents’ basement to inhabit while saving for a house down-payment, millennial Aussies entering the housing market are facing a bleak future. Rising rents are taking such a bite out of savings that, without a huge financial gift, a mortgage down payment will take years, perhaps even decades, to scrape together.

It’s a story repeating itself, not only in Australia, but many other regions of the world.
