In USA ‘. . . the persistence of extreme poverty is a political choice. . .’

Young & poor in the USA? You might be better off in any other industrialized country.

A more complete and damning quote from a new United Nations report: “. . .in a rich country like the United States, the persistence of extreme poverty is a political choice made by those in power.”

An accurate assessment of U.S. political will and might? Of course not!

As all Americans have been told over and over and over, the United Nations is dominated by African, Middle Eastern, ex-Soviet bloc and Asian countries that are jealous of America’s riches and biased against the world’s number one country. Statements and reports about America by U.N. officials are filtered through the mind-set of those America-hating countries and can be taken with a pinch of salt.

The report is not, as it happens, written by an African or Middle Eastern or Asian expert on poverty. The author comes from Australia, lives and teaches in the United States, and has first hand knowledge of his material.

Philip Alston, who is a specialist in extreme poverty, reveals a some damning statistics about his current country of residence, which has the highest incidence of youth poverty of all industrialized nations.
