As long as speculation and investment are allowed to drive up housing prices in major cities everywhere, those in search of affordable housing may have only one sensible solution: go elsewhere.
That means abandoning any hope of housing investment in old cities, which may well wither as they become privileged ghettos for the housing-rich and unaffordable for the majority whose wages do not keep up with the cost of housing.
Instead, the future may well lie investing in the housing of smaller, less expensive cities, or in city-less suburbs.
