The California Town of Santa Clarita is a world away from the 2017 social housing inferno that killed so many in London England.
Grenfell Tower residents were ultimately victims of punitive architecture: the poor do not deserve to live in attractive housing. When London neighbors complained that they too were being punished by the ominously drab architecture, the tower was prettified after the fact in a deadly sheath of flammable material.

In the Santa Clarita photo at the top of the page, can you spot the punitive architecture of the city’s first social housing structure? You cannot, and nor should you be able to see it, because Santa Clarita has built it from the ground up as an attractive residence, not only to please the neighbours, but to provide a sense of dignity and self-worth for its new residents.
