The housing storm growling on the horizon is now overhead, beating down upon the United Kingdom and impacting significantly on its recent national election.

The New Economics Foundation (NEF) offers solutions, one of which is switching to social rent in order to . . .”deliver the high-quality, affordable, secure homes we all need.”

According to Sam Tims, who is the author of the NEF’s report:

    • 145,000 children in England currently go to bed each night without a home of their own.
    • In 2019/20, the poorest private renters spent 44% of their disposable income on housing costs: by 2022/23 that figure had grown to 59%.
    • Between 2019/20 and 2022/23, social housing renters paid a constant 33%.
    • Building 90,000 social homes per year will break even in 11 years, producing a profit thereafter.

Does your jurisdiction need a similar economic and social boost?
