Sandwell, UK, Social Housing tenants can practice seeing no evil, as well as hearing no evil as much or little as it suits them. Council doesn’t care about that. But “speak no evil”? That’s an entirely different kettle of worms! Sandwell Council has proposed to invoke the third monkey in its contracts with social housing tenants.
Now, it’s hardly a blanket demand that tenants are being asked to adhere to. Individual or institution, tenants may badmouth anyone or anything else to their heart’s content. But they must fawn appropriately at all times when it comes to local council and its actions as their landlord.
Is it surprising that housing tenants are pissed?
Can forelock tugging be written into a contract between landlords and tenants then enforced by law, with eviction a possible consequence for breaking it?
Oh yes, we almost forgot to mention. Social housing guests must suitably kiss-ass council as well, or their thoughtless speech may bounce the tenants right out of their homes.
