L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Catalunya, España
L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, is one of the densest cities in Spain and lies just southwest of Barcelona. It’s suffering from a serious crisis of housing price rises followed by evictions of those who can no longer afford them. L’Hospitalet shares this problem with Barcelona itself, as well as many other cities in the world. Currently, L’Hospitalet has something most other cities don’t — a group of dedicated neighbours determined to put roofs over the head of local residents who have been evicted.
Those neighbourhood actions are the subject of a documentary, entitled Syndicat, available in The Guardian: Sindicat: evading eviction in one of Europe’s most densely populated cities
If you missed the link, which is not terribly obvious on the introductory page to the documentary, here’s further information about the formation of the neighbourhood group, written by the documentary’s director Irene Baqué: If health and education are essential services in Spain, why not housing?
