As Dublin begins a month long exhibition of the ‘Vienna Housing Model’ we are forced to look on enviously from the other side of the Atlantic. It will be remarkable success story of a vibrant city built using an extremely social housing model, in which renting homes replaces owning homes.

Could we get an exhibition here, please? Here being central Canada. Public housing was built here up until the 1990’s, but since then it’s been starved of both attention and funding.

Lord knows, they need such an exhibition to the south of us in the U.S.A, perhaps more than Canada. South of the border, after a promising start, disillusionment grew into distaste and then revulsion, with government at various levels waging an active war against it.
